Absolutely.  Before we ever begin operations in a country, we take the necessary steps to introduce our organization to all pertinent law enforcement and governmental entities within the country.  Building strong, trusting, and lasting relationships with law enforcement is the backbone to long-term successful operations within any country where we work.  We work at the behest of local, state, provincial, and national law enforcement, coming alongside their existing efforts to combat human trafficking.  Together, we work to rescue victims of human trafficking and dismantle the criminal networks that sexually exploit the vulnerable for profit.

As an intervention organization, there are significant limitations around what we can do from an investigative perspective, as it relates to United States law.  As stated above, we always work in partnership with law enforcement, which mean we respect and strictly adhere to the law, regardless of where we operate.  That said, we are champions of our local, state and national law enforcement as they all work towards eradicating human trafficking here in the United States.  When and where it makes sense, we can offer targeted support to law enforcement in the form of case funding and technology, if the opportunity arises.

No, we do not.  Despite what Hollywood portrays, in the private sector world (as opposed to the government and law enforcement) we aren’t kicking in doors, shooting people, or forcefully arresting perpetrators.  The fact of the matter is police are the arrest authority, we are civilians, highly trained, but civilians, nonetheless.  Therefore, we don’t carry nor use weapons.  We operate in obscurity and gather the evidence law enforcement needs to validate human trafficking is taking place thereby paving the way for a rescue and arrest operation to be planned and executed.

That’s a great question, and in full transparency, we don’t know.  It’s not that we don’t have tight measures and controls around investigative costs, it’s simply that we never know how long it will take to gather the needed evidence to make a rescue and arrest, how many investigators are involved, where exactly it is taking place (it could be multiple locations across multiple cities), nor the full scope and size of victim and perpetrator count, all of which can significantly impact the cost.  What we can promise you is that every dollar given to Dark Horse Global is maximized.  We run lean as an organization so we can stretch every dollar to its fullest extent.

You can’t find us on social media for a couple of reasons.

First and foremost, we do it for the safety and security of our field teams.  We don’t want people knowing exactly where we operate, and for good reason.  The work we do is inherently dangerous and we never want harm to come to our investigators by way of collateral damage in the name of building interest in what we do, nor getting as many “likes” or “thumbs up” as we can.  It’s not worth it.

Second, we purposefully run a lean operation, part of which includes not having a marketing and communications team and the associated platforms utilized to share content and grow a donor base.  Organizations can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on these teams and systems.  We’d rather use that money to put more investigators in the field and run more operations to rescue more victims from human trafficking.

That’s another great question.  The answer is similar to why you don’t see a social media presence for Dark Horse Global.  For the safety and security of our organization as a whole as well as our individual staff, we keep all identities confidential.  Our teams work undercover in the darkest corners of the earth and it’s imperative the criminal networks we encounter in the field never know our names and faces.  It might feel a little cloak and dagger, but the threat is real, and we take it very seriously.

We don’t post job openings for our investigator positions.  As you’ve likely read, all of our investigators in foreign countries are citizens and nationals of those countries.  However, our Dark Horse 1 team (DH1) are staffed by westerners and used to augment ongoing investigations in our countries of operation when westerners would be helpful in a certain region or location.  At the moment, we don’t have any openings for DH1, however, in the future we will likely have a vetting and selection process for new DH1 team members.  If you are interested, please forward you resume to info@darkhorseglobal.org and we’ll keep it on file.  When the next vetting and selection takes place, if we think you’re a good fit, we’ll reach out to you.
